Last time I went to Gifu was in 2017, to see my wife’s parents for the first time in their hometown.
The four of us had a lunch at a restaurant near Nagara River.
Soon after, we got married, then the covid came, I moved to Ogasawara and then to Mozambique.
This time, I came back to Gifu after 6 years.
Sadly, my wife’s father passed away last year.
For a long time, myself and my parents were not able to see him.
So my parents and I took a trip together to Gifu to have a little family reunion.
前回岐阜に来たのは、結婚する前の2017年、妻のご両親に会いに行った時。
長良川の近くのレストランで4人で食事をした。
その後私たち夫婦は結婚し、コロナが現れて、私は小笠原に2年住んだ後モザンビークに来て、今回6年ぶりに岐阜に帰ってきた。
残念ながら、妻の父が昨年亡くなった。
長い間、私も、私の両親も、妻の父に会えていなかった。
そんな父に挨拶をしに、今回私の両親とともに岐阜旅行を企画した。
I arrived in Gifu 1 day earlier than my parents.
At my wife’s home, I put my hands together for my wife’s father.
The last time I saw him was at my wedding.
I remembered his warm smile while praying.
Then, my wife and I took a walk around the neighbourhood where she grew up, and had dinner with her mother in their home.
This day happened to be our wedding anniversary.
It became a special evening.
妻の実家のある岐阜市に、私は自分の両親よりも1日早く入り、妻の父の実家に泊まった。
妻の父の遺影に、ご挨拶をする。
最後にあったのは自分の結婚式。
父の穏やかな笑顔を思い出した。
その後妻と市内を散策し、妻の実家で妻の母と3人で食事をした。
たまたまその日は私たち夫婦の結婚記念日だった。
色々と特別な夜。
The next day, my parents arrived in Gifu.
We put our hands together for my wife’s father and then went on to a trip to Hida-Takayama Onsen (hot spring).
Its been a long time since I went on a trip with my family. It is my first time to go with my wife’s family.
It was a fresh feeling, mixed with a bit of nervousness, riding the local express train with my family.
Apart from that, I just love the indescribable relaxed atmosphere of these local express trains in Japan.
翌日、私の両親が東京から来て、妻の父の遺影に手を合わせた後、みんなで飛騨高山の温泉に行った。
久しぶりの家族旅行、ましてや妻の母との旅行は初めて。
新鮮な気持ちの中、最初はちょっと緊張しながら駅弁を食べながら特急ひだで高山に向かう。
こういうローカルな特急て、不思議なリラックス感があるよね・・。
My family and I enjoyed sightseeing, dining and relaxing in onsen.
We talked a lot and the day was filled with laughter.
After staying one night, both parents went back home, while my wife and I stayed one more night.
We wanted to do some trekking.
Our target mountain was Mount Kurai.
The internet research recommended us to bring crampons in the winter season.
But we don’t have crampons, and we didn’t want to buy them. We tried to rent them but wasn’t successful in doing so in Tokyo nor Gifu.
But we didn’t give up on climbing the Mountain, and kept researching by asking the local people.
We decided to just go there and see what we can do. After all, if we think it would be dangerous, we can always turn back.
高山で最初の一泊二日は、親たちと観光と食事と温泉を堪能した。
みんなでよく喋ってよく笑っていい日になった。
二日目の昼に私の両親は東京に、妻の母は岐阜市に帰り、
私と妻だけ高山にもう一泊して、主にトレッキングをした。
位山に行きたいねと、事前に妻と話していた。
調べたウェブサイトでは冬場はアイゼンを、と書いてあった。
アイゼン持ってないし、買う必要もないので、レンタルしようとするも、東京ではレンタル屋がたまたま休業日でタイミングが合わずに借りれず、岐阜にもレンタルできるところは無かった。
それでも希望を捨てずに現地ので情報収集をした結果、まあアイゼンあった方がいいかもだけど、まずは行ってみて、ダメそうだったら引き返そうと、そんなプランで突撃。
The starting point of the trek was at the top of the ski resort.
We told the person sitting at the reception that we don’t have crampons.
She casually responded, that it wouldn’t be a big problem.
So we got ourselves a green light!
We hopped onto the ski lifts, without wearing skis for the first time.
As we go up, we were watching the competition among young skiers.
モンデウスというスキー場まで行って、リフトに乗った先に、位山への登山口がある。
登山届けを出す受付の人に、アイゼンないんですけど〜と聞くと、ああ、まあ大丈夫ですよ、的なゴーサインをいただく。
初めて、スキーを履かずにリフトに乗った。
スキー場では学生の競技スキーの大会をやっていた。
Almost the whole trek route was covered in snow.
There were some slippery points, but wasn’t a big problem for us reaching the peak.
Never know what’s gonna happen until we try!
Another special trek with such story and beautiful snowy sceneries.
登山の最初から最後までほぼ雪道。
多少滑りやすい場所もあったけど、なんら問題なく登頂。
やっぱ、まずはやってみることですね、何事も。
そんなストーリーもあり、雪景色も美しく、これまた特別な登山になった。
As we were heading back to town, we bump into a local craft brewery.
Such a nice beer after a trek.
Tired, we went back to Tokyo.
下山した帰り道、近くのマイクロブルワリーを発見、最高な一杯をいただく。
その日のうちに、疲れた体で東京に帰った。
The Gifu trip was so fulfilling and I enjoyed the time with my family.
