Its been a while since I wrote my last blog…
I’m living in Mozambique now.
In celebration of my work visa issuance ( ! ), I would like to share about my life here in Mozambique.
みなさまこんにちは。
だいぶ久しぶりの投稿になってしまいましたが、、、。
現在私はモザンビークにいます。
そしてこの度、念願の就労ビザを獲得した（！）記念に、近況をみなさまにシェアします。
I first came to Mozambique in June 2021.
My wife moved to Mozambique for her work and I decided to join her there.
It was actually the first time for us to live together!
My wife and I met in Tanzania, in 2015, and we both loved the life there.
So this was a chance for us to live together, in our beloved African continent.
Thats how I ended up in Mozambique after quitting my job in the Ogasawara Islands, Japan.

モザンビークに来たのは2021年6月。
きっかけは、モザンビークで仕事に就いた奥さんについて行く形で私が後で合流しました。
我々夫婦にとって初めての同居生活です！
我々夫婦が出会ったのが、2015年、タンザニアで、お互いにタンザニアが大好きで、
そんなところから、アフリカで2人で生活するチャンスが巡ってきた、ということで、
仕事もやめて小笠原からはるばるモザンビークに来たわけです。

So, my life with my wife and a cat in the capital city Maputo started in June.
We fell in love with Mozambique, with its warm climate, lively people, beautiful coastline, and its generally safe (security-wise) environment.
In Maputo, we could freely go for walks, shopping, and eat-out.
We enjoyed the the life in the city situated along the coastline.
With many old buildings remaining from the Portuguese colonial times, the city has a unique atmosphere which gives you a step-back-in-time kind of feeling.

2022年6月から、奥さんと猫との首都・マプトでの生活がスタートしました。
モザンビークは、気候が温暖で、人々は陽気で、海は美しく、治安もいい（悪い場所もあるけど）。
マプトでの生活は、特に何も不自由することもなく、
街を散策したり、買い物をしたり、外食をしたりして、
オーシャンビューもある、ちょっとしたシティライフを楽しみました。
マプトは、今でこそ近代的な建物もありますが、ポルトガル領時代の古い建物もかなり残っていて、
それらがいい味を出していて、タイムスリップした様な不思議な感覚を味わえる街です。

My wife and I enjoyed living together in Maputo,
until in December when she decided to go to Myanmar for a new job role.
When she first started considering for the position, I was interested in going there too, and we sought for ways to make that come true.
But the situation in Myanmar didn’t allow that to happen.
There was not even a commercial flight to reach there. Land boarders were closed also.
So in the end, we gave up, and
I sent her off to Myanmar and I decided to remain in Mozambique, with my cat, since I liked it here.
Not only that I liked it here, my decision to remain in Mozambique was also empowered by some wonderful encounters with the people here.
One weekend, my wife and I, along with some friends, went to Namaacha, a small town 2 hours drive west form Maputo, near the boarder with the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Our prior information about Namaacha was that its a peaceful country-side town, where we can do some hiking and sight-seeing.
The owner of the Airbnb where we stayed, kindly introduced us 2 local farms, as places to visit for sight-seeing.
The visit to these 2 farms, was the life-changing experience for me,
that later convinced me to move to Namaacha and establish a company in Mozambique.
I will write in more detail about these 2 farms in a different post.
そんな感じで、マプトで奥さんとの同居生活をエンジョイしていたのですが、
12月に奥さんが、仕事の異動によって、モザンビークを離れ、ミャンマーに行くことに。
最初は、ミャンマーかー、俺も行ってみたいなーと、夫婦で一緒に行く道を模索しました。
ただしミャンマー国内の情勢が、それを許しませんでした。
そもそも民間の飛行機も飛んでいないような状況。
陸路で入るか！とか色々ワイルドな方法も模索しました。
最終的には無理だねってなって、
奥さんはミャンマーに行きたいということで、行ってらっしゃいと送り出して、
私はモザンビーク好きだし、ここに残るか！（猫と）と決めました。
その決断に至るまでに、色々な出会いが関わっていて。
マプトから車で2時間ぐらい西に走った、エスワティニ王国との国境近くの街、
ナマーシャ（Namaacha）に初めて行ったことが転機に。
ナマーシャは長閑な田舎町で、ハイキングとかして、のんびりできるよ〜という
知人からの情報をもとに行ってみることに。
そこで泊まったAirbnbオーナーが、観光する場所として、2つの農家さんを紹介してくれました。
それぞれの農家さんについては、別途書かせてもらおうかと思いますが、
この人たちとの出会いと、ナマーシャの環境に惚れて、
私はモザンビークに残り、そしてこのナマーシャに移住することにしたのでした。
そしてこちらで仕事をすべく、会社を立ち上げたのでした。
Its been 9 months since I moved to Namaacha.
My company was established in August, and recently, I finally got my work visa, which took me lots of time, money and effort…
The name of the Company is Nyika Consultoria.
Is it a consulting company? Well, maybe, but the “consultoria” part was put mainly for administrative reasons.
Nyika means “to give” in the local Shangana (or Tsonga) language.
I am hoping “to give” to the community through my projects and also I simply liked how the word sounded.
So, what am I gonna do here?
I want to do farming.
Applying permaculture principles and also referring to the natural farming methods from Japan, I am hoping to produce valuable outcomes.
Not only that, I want the farm to be where people interact and learn.
Since coffee can be grown here, opening a cafe could also be my future goal…
As a first-timer, I have lots of learning to do, but would like to enjoy my work through building a community with the local people.

ナマーシャにきて9ヶ月が経過。
8月に会社が立ち上がり、
そしてやっと、たくさんのお金と時間と労力をかけて、先日ビザも取れました。
会社の名前はNyika Consultoria。
弁護士の勧めで、登録しやすいということでコンサルという名前になっていますが、
そこはあまりお気にならさらず。
Nyikaはこの地域の土語、シャンガナ語（ツォンガ語）で与える（give）の意を持つ。
地域や人々に与えていけたらな、という想い、
あとは語呂的に気に入ったのでこれにしました。
では何をやるのか。
一番やりたいのは農業です。
フルーツや野菜、ハーブ類など、パーマカルチャーや日本の自然農の知見も参考にして、
価値のあるものをつくり、
そして農場としても、人々が交流し、学びがある場を創り出したいと思っています。
コーヒーも育つし、カフェもできたら、なんてことも考えています。
初めての自営業、わからないことばかりですが、現地の人たちとのコミュニティを築きながら、
楽しんでいきたいと思います。
